- Job number, date, the customer and the address of the work
- What was asked for, and what was actually done
- Time on site and the materials used
- The checks for this kind of job, each ticked off
- Notes, photos, and anything still to do or to come back for
- The customer's signature and the date, to confirm the work is done
Tips for electricians
- The job sheet doesn't replace the certificate: it records the visit, and the certificate records the test results.
- Note anything you found on the existing installation and told the customer about, with a photo. It protects you if the fault turns up later.

Is a job sheet the same as an electrical certificate?
No. The certificate (EIC, Minor Works or EICR) is the formal record of the test results and is what building control and insurers ask for. The job sheet is your record of the visit: what you did, what you found, what you told the customer and their signature.
What is a job sheet?
A job sheet (also called a job card or work sheet) is the record of one visit: what you were asked to do, what you did, the checks you made, the materials you used and the customer's signature. It's what you turn to if there's a dispute, a callback or a warranty claim, and it makes the invoice quick to write.
Who signs a job sheet?
You fill it in and the customer signs it when the work is finished, to confirm it's done and they're happy with it. If the customer isn't there, note who let you in and send them a copy with photos.
