Electrician Receipt Template
Electricians often take a deposit to order a consumer unit, charger or solar kit, then the balance on completion. This receipt template shows each payment and what's still owed, so nobody is unsure what's been paid.

What to put on an electrician receipt
- Your business name and contact details
- A receipt number and the date the money came in
- Who paid, and what for: the invoice number or the job
- How much you received and how it was paid (cash, bank transfer or card)
- What's still owed, if anything, so a part payment or deposit is clear
- Your VAT number if you're VAT registered
Tips for electricians
- For a deposit, say what it pays for (for example the consumer unit and surge protector ordered for the job) and that the balance is due on completion.
- If a landlord pays for an EICR, put the property address on the receipt: they'll need it with the report.

Can I ask for a deposit before ordering a consumer unit?
Yes, and many electricians do for boards, chargers and solar kits. Take it against a quote the customer has accepted, give a receipt saying what it pays for, and show it on the final invoice as already paid.
What's the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice asks to be paid; a receipt shows you were. Send the invoice when the work is done (or for a deposit), and the receipt when the money comes in. A business customer who is VAT registered needs your VAT invoice to claim the VAT back; a receipt alone isn't enough.
How long do I keep copies of receipts?
HMRC asks sole traders to keep business records for at least 5 years after the 31 January tax return deadline for that year, and limited companies for 6 years. Keep a copy of every receipt you give, and of every one you're given for materials.
