- Write every variation down with its price and get it signed: it's the most common building dispute.

Why photograph hidden work on a building job?
Because once foundations, drains or steels are covered, nobody can see them. Dated photos on the job sheet show the work was done to the drawings, which answers building control, the customer and, years later, the buyer's surveyor.
What is a job sheet?
A job sheet (also called a job card or work sheet) is the record of one visit: what you were asked to do, what you did, the checks you made, the materials you used and the customer's signature. It's what you turn to if there's a dispute, a callback or a warranty claim, and it makes the invoice quick to write.
Who signs a job sheet?
You fill it in and the customer signs it when the work is finished, to confirm it's done and they're happy with it. If the customer isn't there, note who let you in and send them a copy with photos.
