Terms

  • Problems found behind tiles, floors or boxing are priced and agreed before any extra work.
  • Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months; parts carry the manufacturer's warranty.
  • Tiling, plastering and decorating are not included unless listed above.

Example lines and prices only: put in your own.

What to put on a plumber invoice

  • The word Invoice and a unique invoice number (number them in order)
  • The invoice date and the date the work was finished
  • Your business name and address; a limited company puts its full registered name
  • The customer's name and address
  • What you did, with line prices and the total
  • If you're VAT registered: your VAT number and, for each line, the VAT rate, with the VAT total
  • Payment terms and how to pay: bank details with the invoice number as the reference, and a card payment link if you have one

Tips for plumbers

  • List parts and labour separately: the customer sees what they paid for, and if you work for a contractor the labour is clear for CIS.
  • Add your guarantee: how long you cover your work, and that the manufacturer's warranty is theirs to register.
  • A heat pump fitted in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027; a boiler or bathroom is standard-rated at 20%.

Plumber Invoice Template: questions

Should parts be listed separately on a plumbing invoice?

Yes. Separate lines for the shower, the valves and the labour answer the customer's questions before they ask, help with warranty claims, and keep the labour clear if a contractor has to take CIS off it.

What makes an invoice a VAT invoice?

Once you're VAT registered, your invoices must show your VAT number, the price of each line without VAT, the VAT rate and the VAT amount, and the total. If you're not registered you must not charge VAT or show a VAT number.

How long should payment terms be?

That's up to you: payment on completion, 7, 14 or 30 days are all common. Put the due date on the invoice. With business customers, if you agreed no terms, the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act lets you claim interest at 8% over the Bank of England base rate once 30 days have passed.
